I know I've been absent from blogland for quite some time and keep promising to post my new work. BUT... I've been caught up in the holiday hustle & bustle since my show at the art center last weekend. By the way, it was quite an interesting show. I sold a few things which is always nice, but most people were looking for holiday bazaar type items and functional pottery. My 'stuff' is NOT functional but I did sell most of the angels I made.
AGAIN-I promise to post photos of the angels and the other mixed media pieces as soon as time permits. I also have some rust dyed pieces to show.
In the meantime have a marvelous holiday with your family and friend

It seems that I can only manage to post once a month to my blog. I have been keeping track of friends and family via Facebook but I've been just horrible about keeping up with my blog friends.
The Fine Art of Fiber that I posted about previously was a wonderful show and I regret that I didn't take any pictures. It was very inspiring to see all the talented pieces of fiber art that was showcased.
I was fortunate to sell one of my pieces which was exciting as well as a little sad. When it's a piece I really like I feel as though I've just sold a piece of my family.Hopefully it's in a new home and the owner loves it.
Since the fiber show I have been busy getting items ready for the show featured in the postcard above. I am
tickled to have my raku mask/ mixed media piece on the front of the postcard. These will be mailed out to
all residents of the town I live in. The artists participating have been given postcards as well to mail to friends and family. As you can see, the show is next weekend so I still have projects in various stages of being finished. I still have NOT taken any photographs of the items that are in progress. Hopefully I can do that this weekend while I'm pricing and packing.
I have also been working on a piece that will not be in this show. I always have to have something to work on 'just for me'. When I'm creating for a specific show or magazine-something with a specific theme, I feel like I have to have a 'side' project where I can just create without worrying whether someone will buy it or worrying that I'm having to follow someone else's rules and guidelines.
So, this next photo is the piece I've been beading and stitching at night. Still not done but this is a pretty good start. The background is a mounted canvas piece I created back during the summer and was undecided about what to do with it. I grabbed a piece of dyed silk that blended beautifully with the painted background and just started stitching and beading.
There is also some distressed polyester chiffon and some painted and distressed tyvek. I plan to add a little more tyvek and maybe a few more beads or perhaps a few more shells. Currently the silk is NOT attached to the canvas background. I did all the stitching and beading on the silk which is backed by felt, then I will attach it to the canvas with some more stitching.
If I haven't been around to your blog lately, I promise, promise, promise to stop by for a visit soon.
Until then, live your life creatively~
